1. Pre-Expansion
The process starts with raw EPP beads (solid polypropylene pellets containing a blowing agent). These EPP beads are introduced into a vessel called a pre-expander, where they are exposed to steam. The heat from the steam causes the blowing agent to expand, similar to how popcorn pops. This “pre-expansion” significantly increases the volume of the beads and reduces their density. 2. Conditioning (Maturation)
