Introduction of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in EPS Industry

EPS products use steam heat to expand and foam the raw material EPS, which is a physical change. In the foaming and molding stage, EPS will emit a small amount of organic waste gas, and its main components are benzene series and pentane foaming agent.

EPS has good chemical stability and heat resistance. Its pyrolysis temperature is much higher than that of foaming, molding and drying. Under normal circumstances, it will not cause the decomposition of particles and theoretically will not produce benzene monomer waste gas.

Under the action of squeezing force, a small amount of molecules will be broken, decomposed, degraded, etc., and a small amount of free monomer waste gas may be generated. Therefore, there will be a very small amount of free benzene monomers and low boiling point additives during the foaming process. Volatile substances are produced.

In the process of foaming and molding, EPS will inevitably volatilize to produce a small amount of low molecular hydrocarbon gas (mainly pentane) due to heat.
