The helmet design that we often use is more to deal with a single strong impact. Once the EPS buffer layer is ruptured and damaged, it loses the effect of converting energy and delaying conduction. Therefore, when the wearer's helmet suffers a strong impact, he should immediately replace it with a new helmet, because in many cases the rupture of the buffer layer is covered by the outer shell and the inner lining layer and is difficult to detect. Sometimes the wearer will ignore the cracks in the EPS buffer layer, especially when the damage is not obvious, but it should be noted that the performance of the EPS has changed, and the slowing effect after the impact is weakening.
It is usually recommended to replace the helmet with a new one within 5-10 years after purchase according to the use of the helmet, which can minimize the effect of the degradation of the EPS buffer layer over time and minor collisions or head pollution.
